Crisis Helpline (MIELI – Mental Health Finland ry)

For crisis helpline in English, please call +358 9 2525 0113 on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 11 am to 3 pm, on Wednesdays from 1 pm to 4 pm and 1from 5 pm to 9 pm, and on Thrudays from 10 am to 3 pm. Not on Fridays.

MIELI – Mental Health Finland’s Crisis Helpline offers conversational support for people and their relatives in difficult life situations. The calls are received by professionals and trained volunteers. The helpline is open for everyone, regardless of gender, age, or place of residence. The goal is to be able to help in challenging situations and to prevent suicide. The professionals help the caller to find options and methods to facilitate situations, strengthen their own resources, and solve the problems.

For advice and guidance concerning sexual violence, please call 0800 97899, from Mondays to Thurdays, from 9 am to 3 pm, all other times including weekends and holidays from 3 pm to 9 pm. Not on Fridays.

Nollalinja (free translation: Zero Line) against domestic violence and violence against women. Either please call +358 80 005 005 or chat.

  • Nollalinja is a free helpline you can call at any time of the day, every day of the year. The helpline is available 24/7 in Finnish, Swedish and English on +358 80 005 005 (Nollalinja uses a 24/7 interpretation service in the following languages and the language name contains a link to the page for that language Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Somali, Sorani and Russian)
  • Chat is open on weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm. Chat pop-up opens on the site if the crisis worker is available.

Nollalinja helps:

  • women who have experienced psychological, physical or sexual violence or threat of violence
  • anyone who has experienced psychological, physical or sexual violence or threat of violence in an intimate relationship
  • family members of victims of violence
  • professionals and officials who need advice in their customer work

Open Line (Maria Akatemia)

The Open Line is for women who use, or are afraid that the might use violence. Please call +3589 7562 2260 on Tuedays from 4 pm to 6 pm, Fridays from noon to 2 pm.

The Federation of Mother and child homes and Shelters

The Federation of Mother and child homes and Shelters is a nationwide child welfare organization that helps children and families in difficult and insecure situations and prevents domestic violence. In Finland they have 10 Mother and child homes, 7 homes for substance-abusing pregnant women and families with infants and 19 shelters for the victims of domestic violence. All of the associations also have daytime support services.

Women’s Line (Naisten Linja)

Women’s Line offers services to people who identify themselves as girls or women and have experienced violence or abuse, or threat of violence or abuse, and to those close to them. You can call Women’s Line, use the chat service or send them a letter online. It’s free and anonymous, and the women on call are trained volunteers. Women’s Line also organises support groups online and face-to-face in Helsinki.

Rape Crisis Centre (Tukinainen)

Tukinainen is a national victim support centre that provides information, support and guidance for people who have been sexually assaulted or abused. It provides guidance for their families, co-operation, consultation and training for professionals, authorities, organisations and educational institutions in a variety of fields.

Victim Support Finland (RIKU)

The aim of Victim Support Finland is to improve the position of victims of crime, their loved ones and witnesses of criminal cases by influencing and producing support services. You can contact the service either by phone or by filling and submitting the following contact request.

Youth Shelters (Finnish Red Cross)

The Red Cross Youth Shelters operates in five different locations in Finland, and offers conversational support, help, and if necessary, a temporary accommodation for youths in age of 12-19.
