Intoxicants
Students often engage in substance use to bond, alleviate stress, or fit in, which can influence their social life and sense of community. Substance use, especially alcohol, affects sleep, cognitive abilities, and overall study performance, making it harder to focus and succeed academically.
If you’re worried about your own or a peer’s substance use, consider taking self-help tests or discussing the issue with a trusted professional like a school nurse. If you suspect a fellow student may be struggling with substance abuse, it’s helpful to express concern by asking questions like, “How are you really?” to show that you care.
